Tufting Their Way One Thread At A Time

Thirty-two SITizens came together to unleash their inner artist at a hands-on tufting workshop organised by SIT’s Advancement and Alumni Division on 7 March.  

If you haven’t heard of tufting before, it is an age-old technique that is used to create beautiful and intricate rugs and textiles by pushing wool or yarn through a backing fabric. While it is not necessarily an extremely difficult craft, it comes with a learning curve and requires precision and most importantly, patience.  

Held at tufting studio WeTuft, the workshop gave SIT alumni an opportunity to reconnect with fellow peers over creative art. Mr Soon Zeng Fu from the Class of 2020 said, “It was a fun experience as I got to catch up with my schoolmates as well as connect with other alumni whilst getting to experience tufting at the same time! Would love to take part in more of such events in the future.”  

The workshop also proved to be an unforgettable experience for SITizens attending their first-ever Alumni event, as they quickly found themselves immersed in the friendly and engaging atmosphere, as in the case of Ms Nurul Atiqah Binte Mohamed Amin, Class of 2021. She said, “This was my first alumni event and with it being a chill tufting session, my nervousness was gone in an instant. I was able to catch up with my friends while also getting to know new ones. I would definitely recommend such events to my friends and attend more of these in the future!”.
