How Four Alumni Are Building a Home for Occupational Therapy Graduates

The Occupational Therapy (OT) Alumni Group, SIT’s newest alumni community, was founded by four graduates from the Class of 2024: Teo Zhe Hao, Niam Xing De, Kelvin Lau, and Joel Foo. Starting an alumni group from scratch while working full time as occupational therapists might appear demanding on paper, but the four friends approached the endeavour with clarity and purpose.

The initiative to start the alumni group grew naturally from their shared belief that people thrive when they remain connected. This principle became the foundation of the group’s formation and will continue to guide its development as the community grows.

A Reunion Years in the Making

On 14 August 2026, the OT Alumni Group held its inaugural reunion at the SIT Alumni Base Station. The event brought together 38 alumni, three faculty members, and two current students, filling the space with lively conversations and warm reconnections.

The turnout affirmed the exco’s belief that the OT community had always wanted a space to gather but simply needed some organisation to bring it to life. The atmosphere of the event reflected this clearly, where alumni who had not met since graduation reconnected effortlessly, current students engaged naturally with seniors, and faculty members reunited with former students who had since become fellow professionals. The evening demonstrated the strength of a community that had always existed, simply waiting for the right moment and place to come together.

Full Circle, By Design

The OT Alumni Group is anchored by a simple mission: “From SIT, for SIT.” This guiding philosophy reflects the exco’s belief that alumni play a meaningful role in shaping the experiences of future Occupational Therapists. The group views the alumni network as a bridge connecting generations through mentorship, collaboration, and shared purpose.

Central to this mission is the belief that alumni from the same profession should remain connected as the field continues to advance. By fostering relationships across cohorts, the group aims to strengthen professional identity, encourage knowledge‑sharing, and cultivate a supportive community that extends far beyond graduation.

Building the Road Ahead

With the launch completed, the exco team is shaping a year of purposeful engagement designed to strengthen ties across the OT community.

Their upcoming plans include:

Networking sessions: through leisure activities, creating opportunities for alumni to exchange career experiences, explore professional pathways, and strengthen ties in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.
Student engagement: to introduce younger cohorts to the alumni network early, reinforcing the belief that community should begin long before graduation.

The group’s approach to growth remains intentionally organic. Rather than relying on formal recruitment, the exco believes that communities flourish best through word of mouth, shared experiences, and genuine interest. Their long‑term vision is for the OT Alumni Group to become a natural and welcoming home for every graduate, a place joined not out of obligation, but because it offers real value and meaningful connection.
