Connecting Alumni, Industry and Students: SIT Launches Computer Engineering Advisory Alumni Group
The Singapore Institute of Technology launched the Computer Engineering Advisory Alumni Group to strengthen connections between alumni, industry and students, creating new opportunities for mentorship, knowledge sharing and career guidance.
The Singapore Institute of Technology launched the Computer Engineering Advisory Alumni Group (CEG AAG) at its Punggol Campus on 4 February 2026, bringing alumni and graduating students together for an engaging session on navigating the transition from university to the professional world.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the University’s Computer Engineering (CEG) programme, strengthening connections between students, alumni and industry. Supported by SIT’s Office of SITizen Experience (OSE), the CEG AAG aims to create a platform where alumni can give back to the community through mentorship, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
The initiative was introduced by Associate Professor Dan Chia, Programme Leader for the Computer Engineering programme, who highlighted the importance of building stronger connections between alumni and current students. By tapping on alumni experiences across the industry, the group aims to better prepare graduating students for professional success.
Beyond mentorship and networking, the alumni group will also serve as a valuable feedback channel for the programme. Drawing on their industry experiences, alumni members can share insights to help ensure the curriculum remains responsive to evolving technological and market demands, complementing the work of the programme’s Industry Advisory Committee.
To mark the launch, the CEG AAG hosted a sharing session titled “Journey from Student to Working Professional”, where SIT Computer Engineering alumni returned to campus to share their personal career journeys with graduating students.
Moderated by Darren Tan, the panel featured alumni Li Qin Neo, Brandon Choo, Quang Pham, Cheah Zhi Shin, Xavier Tan and Zengfu Soon. Drawing from their experiences across different roles and industries, the panellists spoke candidly about navigating the transition into the workforce, adapting to workplace expectations and continuing to learn beyond university.
The session resonated strongly with graduating students, who actively engaged the speakers with questions about career decisions, workplace challenges and professional growth.
Among the key reflections shared by students were the importance of embracing continuous self-learning, building confidence in their abilities, and recognising that there are many different career pathways available to Computer Engineering graduates.
With the establishment of the CEG AAG, SIT hopes to cultivate a vibrant alumni community that continues to support and inspire future generations of Computer Engineering students.
