Guiding Insights and Building Connections
Amidst cheers and smiles, the Mentoring Social 1 Event captivated and inspired mentors and mentees alike.
It may always be summer in Singapore and the weather could be hot and humid at times; but the Mind Cafe provided a cool sanctuary for participants of the SIT Alumni Mentoring Cycle 8 on 20 June 2024. Over 70 alumni mentors and student mentees gathered for the Mentoring Social 1 event, enthusiastic and exuding positive vibes as they mingled and traded viewpoints throughout the evening.
The session started with dinner, providing an opportunity for SITizens to network over delectable food and drinks. The hosts orchestrated a delightful series of icebreaker games, sparking laughter and excitement among the crowd of attendees.
In a style reminiscent of speed dating, SITizens engaged in speed networking rounds, rotating through different pairings to get better acquainted. After each round, volunteers shared their insights from the discussions, and received Mind Cafe vouchers as a reward!
Ms Natalene Khoo, a Year 2 Information and Communications Technology student shared, “From our very first meeting, my mentor Jubilian and I hit it off instantly. Our mentorship evolved into a genuine friendship, and I am proud to say we are now besties! His guidance has provided me with countless insights, interesting personal stories, and invaluable experiences that have profoundly shaped my professional outlook.”
Mr Jubilian Ho, a first-time mentor and SIT alumnus, works as a Cybersecurity Consultant from Ensign InfoSecurity. He echoed similar sentiments, “It’s an honour and privilege to guide and mentor Natalene, a promising student and junior from my course (Information Security). She not only dreams big and aspires to do well in her studies and protect our digital space in the future, but also has a heart for volunteering and adding value to others. Her humility and growth mindset have inspired many others whom she has met and interacted with through this mentorship programme.”
