Hitting the Bullseye with Archery
Ready, aim, shoot! SITizens channel their inner Hawkeye at an introductory Archery session organised by the SIT Alumni Sports Network.
Over 40 SIT alumni gathered at Salt & Light Archery @ Chai Chee on Saturday, 6 May 2023 to try their hand at Archery, a traditional sport that focuses on accuracy and precision. The venue featured an air-conditioned indoor range containing 10 target boards.
The session started with a safety briefing where participants were guided on how to position themselves, how to nock their arrows to the bow, and the dos and don’ts of holding a bow. The instructors also taught them the basics of how to aim and shared tips on how to hit their target as accurately as possible.
After a couple of practice rounds, the participants even got to enjoy a little friendly competition through a balloon challenge, where groups competed to shoot up to five balloon targets within one minute.
Ms Chong Fang Qi, a Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation alumnus, was happy to have had the opportunity to try archery again. “I tried an intro session once in polytechnic, almost 10 years ago,” she said. “This was definitely a very fun session, and the instructors were very friendly and guided us well. I’ve even thought of trying out beginner classes!”
Instructors guide the participants and offer tips to improve their aim.
